Program Director

Boys & Girls Club of Geneva

Job Summary

The Program Director is responsible for managing all aspects of programs and activities for the organization including the Teen Center and support Goodman Unit programming and other outreach programs. This position will oversee, facilitate and coordinate all programming and administrative functions, management and reporting, staff development, planning and communication.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and oversee the administration of designated Site programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes:

  • Establish program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission
  • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals
  • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s)
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of members

Program Development and Implementation

  • Effectively plan programs, services and activities
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities


  • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program staff and volunteers, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal
  • Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned staff and volunteers
  • Oversee all Site record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers
  • Perform all appropriate employee reviews annually

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Increase visibility of Club programs, services and activities
  • Maintain good public relations
  • Build partnerships with parents and family members
  • Build partnerships with program partners and other organizations

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversee budget for programming and authorize purchases through approved process
  • Work with staff on special events, programs and activities in all departments and other Club sites and Geneva Community Center
  • Oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs, Kids Night Out), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
  • May be required to drive Site van/bus periodically
  • May consult with parents concerning member and Site issues
  • Provide regular reports to Assistant Executive Director and Executive Director regarding daily activities, outcomes, incidents, success stories, program partners and human resources
  • Report all repairs and maintenance issues to Assistant Executive Director
  • Must be available between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., M-F and occasional special events or weekends
  • Will implement and oversee other unit activities or special programs/events as necessary
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • A minimum of three years work experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth organization
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management
  • Demonstrated ability to work with young people, parents and community leaders
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, Web/Social Media, Membership data systems
  • Skills in fundraising events
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
  • Must pass background check
